Wedding season means several events in a row, and buying a separate jewellery set for each one adds up quickly. A well-chosen kundan-style set can work across the whole week if you change what you pair it with. Here is a simple plan.
Mehndi: wear it playful
Mehndi outfits are bright - yellows, greens and oranges - so let colour lead. Wear only the jhumka earrings from your set with a stack of bangles and a tikka in a contrasting colour. Skip the choker, so the look stays light for dancing.
Baraat: the full set
This is the moment for the complete set. A kundan choker sits beautifully above a heavy embroidered neckline. Add a matching tikka and jhoomar if you have them, and keep rings minimal so the necklace stays the focus. Deep reds and maroons bring out the warm gold-plated finish and the ruby-tone accents.
Walima: soften the look
Walima outfits lean towards pastels, silvers and champagne tones. Wear the choker with a lighter dupatta and swap the jhumkas for small zircon studs or pearl drops. The contrast between the statement necklace and delicate earrings feels fresh rather than repeated.
Dholki and nikkah: wear single pieces
Smaller events do not need the whole set. For a dholki, the jhumkas alone with a simple kurta are plenty. For a nikkah, try the choker on its own with a plain neckline and let a soft pastel dupatta do the rest. Mixing in a family piece, such as your mother's bangles, makes the look personal too.
Make it photograph well
- Position the choker so it sits just above the collarbone; adjust the dori before you leave.
- Pin the dupatta so it frames the necklace instead of covering it.
- Wipe stones with a soft cloth before photos - fingerprints dull the shine.
Look after it between events
Kundan-style stones are set over foil, so keep the set dry and away from perfume. After each event, wipe the pieces, let them air for a few minutes, and store them flat in their box with tissue between the necklace and earrings.
