Ordering rings and bangles online is easy once you know your size, and you do not need special tools to find it. All you need is a ruler with millimetres, a strip of paper, and a few minutes.
Ring size: measure a ring that fits
This is the most accurate home method. Take a ring that fits the finger you plan to wear the new ring on, place it on a ruler and measure the inside diameter from edge to edge, not including the metal.
- About 16.5 mm = US size 6
- About 17.3 mm = US size 7
- About 18.1 mm = US size 8
Ring size: the paper strip method
Cut a thin strip of paper, wrap it around the base of your finger and mark where it overlaps. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres - that is the circumference. Around 52 mm is a US 6, 54 mm a US 7 and 57 mm a US 8. The strip should slide over your knuckle with a little resistance.
Tips for an accurate ring size
- Measure in the evening, when fingers are slightly larger, and not when your hands are cold.
- Wider bands feel tighter; for bands over 6 mm consider going half a size up.
- If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one.
Bangle size: measure a bangle you own
Bangles in Pakistan are usually sold as 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 and so on, which describes the inside diameter in inches and sixteenths. Measure the inside of a bangle that slips over your hand comfortably:
- 5.7 cm inside = size 2.4
- 6.0 cm inside = size 2.6
- 6.4 cm inside = size 2.8
Bangle size without a bangle
Bring your thumb and little finger together as if putting on a bangle, then measure around the widest part of your hand with a soft tape or paper strip. Divide that number by 3.14 to get the diameter you need, and round up to the next size.
